Shutoff Valves and Curb Stops: Your Emergency Shutoffs

If you are not already aware, your home is equipped with a shut off valve which should be the first piece of equipment after the water service line comes into your home. Should that shut off valve fail, the only way to shut off water to your home without shutting water off to the entire district is by utilizing your home’s curb stop. We recommend that you test your internal shutoff valve periodically because it is a vital tool to shut off the water in your home in the case of a leak.

Your curb stops will typically be located at the edge of your yard near the road. Operating a curb stop in Timber Creek requires using a “key” to turn a valve head that is usually around 9’ below the ground and is accessed by removing a round cover at the surface level. Take caution when doing any sort of landscaping that you do not cover up your curb stop.
